Product Description
The BDR-X13U-X features a range of functions for enjoying music on PCs, such as “PureRead 4+,” the most advanced version of the “PureRead” function that reads audio CD data faithfully, and “RealTime PureRead,” which minimizes the occurrence of data interpolation in real time when playing audio CDs. In addition to these functions, this product is equipped with an audio CD checking function that displays the playback quality of the audio CD being played in four levels together with methods for dealing with any issues, including changing the unit settings if the quality is poor. This is useful for applications such as CD ripping and music playback. What’s more, in addition to improving anti-vibration performance by treating the disc tray with a coating used in high-end audio devices, we have applied special coatings to the interior and exterior of the housing to improve heat dissipation and achieve excellent quietness and reliability. The product is also fitted with machined aluminum insulators to further suppress vibration and noise, as well as a noise-filtering structure in the power circuitry, reducing power supply noise and offering better quality and performance than in previous models.
* Playback of Ultra HD Blu-ray requires a CPU that supports Intel Software Guard Extensions (Intel SGX) technology. Intel SGX has been removed from Intel 11th generation and newer CPUs, and support for SGX may be removed on new versions of Intel drivers or utility programs such as Intel SGX and Intel Management Engine drivers and firmware in the future. Such changes could cause these platforms to lose support for Ultra HD Blu-ray movie disc playback. For information on other PC environment requirements, please refer to the PDF of User manual in this page.
* AUTO power supply* function links with PC power to provide power savings
The drive power is turned on and off according to the power supply of the connected PC, keeping unnecessary power consumption down.
*Drive power is turned off when the USB is not connected or when the drive detects that the connected PC is off.
*Long-term data protection with M-DISC Support Support reading and writing M-DISC(DVD, BD: SL25GB/DL50GB/TL100GB) introduced by Millenniata, Inc.
Equipped with machined aluminum insulators for improved vibration and noise suppression
This product features high-grade machined aluminum insulators (fitted with a cushion of optimal shape and material), with a luxurious double-anodized coating of the kind used in audio devices. In addition, anti-vibration cushioning and rubber have been used to reduce unnecessary vibrations in the drive by an average of approximately 30%.*
This offers more stable reading and writing.
* The amount of suppression varies depending on the disc rotation speed and the location in which the product is placed.
Superior design with a high-grade rubber coating that is pleasant to the touch
Features a high-grade rubber coating from Japanese coating manufacturer Musashi Paint Co., Ltd. This provides a high level of resistance against scratching, peeling, and hydrolysis. We have also added pearl copper to the coating and dedicated a great amount of care to the way the texture looks when reflecting light, giving it an impression of weight. The front of the product features a simple design of smoked acrylic with a hairline finish from which blue light seems to emerge, and is accented with copper lines, resulting in a refined appearance appropriate to a premium model.
Added noise-filtering structure in the power circuitry reduces power supply noise
We have added a noise-filtering structure in the power circuitry of the USB-SATA conversion circuit board, reducing the noise in power supplied to the drive in this product by an average of approximately 30%.
All-black housing with vibration and noise reduction coating
The dignified all-black exterior and interior of the body, which gives it the presence of a premium model, further enhances the drive’s performance with a special coating to reduce vibration, improve heat dissipation, and suppress the laser’s diffuse reflection.
Low-noise electrolytic capacitors, low-resistance flat cable, anti-vibration cushions and rubber
This product utilizes low-noise electrolytic capacitors. Paired with the same low-resistance flat cable as in previous models, the result is further improvement in conduction performance and reduction of noise in recording and playback signals.Additionally, anti-vibration cushions and rubber reduce vibration when the disc rotates.
Pioneer’s commitment to the original sound has evolved further
When read errors caused by scratches or fingerprints occur when importing (ripping) audio CDs, using this function allows for automatic detection of the disc state, adjustment of the read method using an original algorithm, and then re-reading of the disc. This minimizes error data interpolation. The algorithm utilized in PureRead 4+ is also used in RealTime PureRead, reducing the incidence of data interpolation in real time and playing back audio CDs with the original sound data. *Not all discs or all portions of discs may be playable if they are too damaged.
Equipped with an audio CD playback quality checking function
This product is equipped with an audio CD checking function that checks the playback quality of the audio CD being played and displays it at one of four levels (A to D). If the quality level is poor (C or D), the function displays methods for dealing with the issues, including changing the unit settings. You can choose from Full Mode, which checks all data for selected song, and Quick Mode, which checks data in a short period of time.
“Fragile disc mode for music CD” protects your treasured discs
Music CDs with a lot of prior use may have damage that is not visible.
This mode slows down disc rotation speed to reduce the force on the disc, lowering the risk of forming cracks.
Pioneer Blu-ray drives are the go-to drive for many users including for professional use, to the extent that Pioneer optical drives have become the drives of choice.
There are many reasons for this—Pioneer devices have many unique features that take advantage of long-cultivated knowledge and technology accumulated in the development of optical drives, as well as being one of the few manufacturers to not only design in-house the optical pickup, one of the most important parts in the design of optical drives, but to use in-house development and manufacture for the optical drive itself.
Here, we’ll introduce the reasons that Pioneer’s Blu-ray drives are the drives of choice for a wide range of users.
The history of Pioneer optical disc drives started with the development of LaserDiscs, and the company continued with the development and manufacture of all optical disc drives, including for CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays. This optical disc drive technology and expertise accumulated over many years is fundamental to the performance and quality of current Pioneer Blu-ray drives.
Pioneer uses in-house development and manufacture for everything—from optical pickups through to disc transport mechanisms, control circuitry for these, and even the chassis. This drive condenses our expertise in optical disc technology going back to the era of the LaserDisc, enabling stable read and write operations.
Pioneer Blu-ray drives are renowned for their high writing quality, and are used for storage of historical documents such as those in libraries and museums, examination and treatment data in medical institutions, academic content and research data in educational institutions, and master data at broadcasters. The drives are also used for the storage of confidential documents, statistical data, and other data in government offices.
In previous drives, when a read error occurred because of problems such as scratches or fingerprints on music CDs, this section with the error was interpolated and the sound approximated from this. Pioneer Blu-ray drives include PureRead technology, a unique technology for accurately reading data from music CDs. This technology automatically determines the state of discs that have scratches and makes adjustments accordingly to use an optimal read method, thus providing reading of music CDs that is as close as possible to the original.
Different to the predominant tray-type used in slim external USB drives, our unique slot loading mechanism provides ease-of-use with an ingenious, novel configuration. Additionally, the high-speed stationary type incorporates a disc resonance stabilizer that also calculates airflow when the disc is rotating at high speeds. This mechanism provides more stable writing. “A range of other innovations provide industry-leading stability in writing and read operations. ”
Pioneer’s unique design blends a luxurious design with the functionality of a space-saving clamshell type that opens and closes vertically, as well as a slot loading type that enables easy loading and removal of discs.
